A fine mess! Geordie girls top league for 'tipsy tickets'

GEORDIE lasses are the most likely to be fined for being drunk and disorderly after a “night oot on the lash”, according to police records.

Women in the Northumbria force area have held this unwanted crown for 12 of the past 13 years, only once being topped by their hard-partying Lancashire counterparts.

The latest official statistics showed 238 women in the North East were fined, accounting for a third of all £90 tickets handed out in 2023.

Lancashire came a close second, with 193 fines dished out, followed by Nottinghamshire in third, accounting for 72 fines.

The records showed that Newcastle and Blackpool, popular destinations for hen nights, account for a large proportion of the tickets.

In total, 694 on-the-spot fines for being drunk and disorderly were dished out in 2023. Of these, 299 were to women aged under 30.
