'My neighbour is a hero'

FOR Karen Goodwin Thursday morning began like any other when she hopped in the shower before the day ahead.

But the peaceful morning was quickly shattered when she heard a terrific banging at her front door warning her that there was a fire, and to get out immediately.

Karen hastily grabbed her dressing gown and got out of her house on Windsor Grove in Romiley.

Once she was outside, she saw that a large tree in her front garden was ablaze in the heat.

"The bloke that saved me, he’s an absolute hero," she said.

"He just came running up my path, rang the door and opened the door.
