PEOPLE in Stockport have warned of 'carnage' on the roads if new housing plans are approved.

'It'll be carnage if the homes get built, roads are too busy'

Developer Seddon Homes hopes to build 250 properties on land at Hyde Bank Meadows in Romiley, off Gotherage Lane.

But residents have said the area is already struggling to cope with the existing levels of traffic, and that public services are under major strain.

Fears were also raised about plans to access the proposed development through an existing estate on Gotherage Lane.

Locals have set up a campaign group against Seddon Homes' plans to build in the area.

The group is named 'Stop Seddon Homes - say no to Hyde Bank Meadows development.

Spokesperson for the group, resident Cassie Briffa, said: "We don't have the GP places or the school places, our roads in Romiley are chock-a-block as it is.

"What they're going to do is have 250 houses, let's call it 500 cars, that's going to add to this small road [Gotherage Lane] that's going through a housing estate.

"There's a lot of anger that this is going through."

The application site is made up of green fields and a children's play area on Tangshutt Fields next to an existing housing estate.
