Celebrations after securing their spot in the play-off final
-
Stirling University’s women’s side will return to the ranks of SWPL2 after securing their spot in a dramatic play-off final.
The uni squad was relegated from the second tier of domestic football in Scotland last season, but made sure it was only to be a one year departure after beating SWPL2’s seventh-placed side, Rossvale, over the 90 minutes in Airdrie.
Kaitlyn Cook secured a 1-0 win for the students over the Bishopbriggs-based opposition, with an incredible strike from the edge of the box midway through the second half.
The brilliant result comes just weeks after Nile Robbins' side lifted their first major trophy - the Scottish Power National League Cup - with a 4-2 victory over Renfrew Ladies.
Speaking after watching his team secure promotion, Robbins, women's head coach at the university, said: "It was a hard-fought encounter with a great deal at stake.
"I'm very proud of the way that the team approached the challenge.
