20th anniversary since iron men made stand on beach
Southport Visiter
|July 10, 2025
THIS week's column comes courtesy of Sefton Council's communications team, who are helping to celebrate a birthday for some of the borough's most famous residents.
There are not many places that can boast the biggest open-air art gallery in the world but Crosby Beach could certainly compete for the title.
And this month, Sefton Council is celebrating the 20th anniversary of Antony Gormley's spectacular Another Place artwork.
July 2005 saw the arrival of the cast-iron figures, nicknamed The Iron Men by locals. They now stand as a permanent and striking installation along a two-mile stretch of coast from Waterloo to Blundellsands, attracting millions of visitors from around the globe.
Now Sefton Council is organising a touring display featuring stunning photographs taken over two decades by Crosby photographer Ron Davies.
Men for All Seasons will feature 20 of Davies' landscape images that capture the acclaimed artwork in all weathers at Crosby.
