WRU to consider building a new Centre of Excellence

THE construction of a new centre of excellence is one option the Welsh Rugby Union will put forward when it begins its consultation process next month, writes Steffan Thomas.

Over the next couple of months the WRU will meet with its key stakeholders as it plots a radical restructuring of the professional game by the 2027/28 season at the very latest.

It is no secret the WRU are seriously considering cutting the number of professional teams from four to two with the governing body hoping to announce its new structure in October.

The WRU's new director of rugby and elite performance Dave Reddin is part of the process and recently told the press he has a view on how the new structure should look like.

We understand a new state of the art centre of excellence is something the WRU would like to put in place in the long-run, although this would undoubtedly cost a significant amount of money.
