Wife's plea as her husband is detained

A SWANSEA nurse has been detained by the Israeli authorities after a boat he was on heading towards Gaza with aid was intercepted.
The Abd Elkarim Eid vessel carrying Leigh Evans, a nurse from Swansea, was intercepted by Israeli authorities overnight on Tuesday.
An update shared by his wife Maz Varey from the organisers of the flotilla said the uncertainty of the situation is “frightening” and they hope Mr Evans will be returned to the UK soon.
A Foreign Office spokesman said they were in touch with the Israeli authorities and are supporting the families of “a number of British nationals” who have been detained.
In a video posted on his Instagram on Wednesday, Mr Evans, who was wearing a bandana covered in the Welsh flag, said: “My name is Roger Leigh Evans from the United Kingdom. If you are seeing this video we have been intercepted at sea and I have been kidnapped by the Israeli occupational forces of a country participating in Israel’s genocide of Palestinians.
