Variety from treats to stage

THEY say that “variety is the spice of life” means that having different and new experiences makes life more interesting and enjoyable.

Variety from treats to stage

Kevin with a tray of goodies at CK's bakery in Llanelli

The phrase, rather than ‘they say’ was popularised by poet William Cowper in 1785, suggesting that a life without change or new things would be dull, much like food without flavour. It is used to say that a mixture of different activities and experiences adds flavour to one’s life.

I’ve certainly had a ‘variety is the spice of life’ sort of week as I’ve been involved in a number of different activities all with one common denominator, and that’s people.

On one day alone I found myself in Llanelli by 9am at the CK’s bakery cooking doughnuts.

Maybe I need to get out more but I found it a fascinating experience loading up the doughnuts into the fryer, pressing the button and watching the frying machine cook the doughnuts and then turn them ensuring that they are properly cooking.

Then in goes the jam, the sugar is sprinkled, the doughnuts boxed and delivered within a day to one of the CK local stores.

You never know but if you've had a doughnut in recent days then I may have cooked it!

After my doughnut cooking school lesson was over I found myself in Burry Port for the 9th annual CK’s Scarlets’ Pumpkin Competition!
