Care centre's plea for Bertha's 100th birthday

A retired nurse who devoted her life to caring for others is about to celebrate her 100th birthday and the public is being asked to help make it one to remember.

Bertha, a resident at Bloomfield Care Centre, in Paulton, has no surviving family or close friends nearby, and staff at the home are calling on the community to send her cards and messages to mark the milestone in June.
Born near London, Bertha became an orphan at the age of eight after losing her mother to tuberculosis.
The experience of caring for her mother during her illness inspired her to pursue a lifelong career in nursing, inset.
