The ups and downs of Lincolnshire split

SHOULD Lincolnshire be divided in two - or even three? That's the question leaders are grappling with as they try to finalise their proposals for how local government should be rearranged.

- BY JAMIE WALLER Local Democracy Reporter

It sounds dry, but it will change how the county is run for decades to come. And it could mean that Lincolnshire residents find themselves receiving vastly different services and being governed from different places.

The new Reform administration at Lincolnshire County Council is looking to follow same direction as the previous Conservatives - keeping the historic county of Lincolnshire as a single authority. North and North East Lincolnshire would then merge to form another council, while all districts and boroughs are abolished.

As the submission from the largest Lincolnshire authority, it’s likely to be given considerable weight by the government officials who have to choose. However, other councils are looking at other plans which would carve the county up.
