Domino's Pizza eyeing up takeaway at retail park

Plans to open a Domino's Pizza hot food takeaway at a new retail development in South Shields have been officially submitted.

South Tyneside Council's planning department has received an application for the retail park under construction off Claypath Lane and Crossgate in South Shields.

The town centre site once housed an office block but following its demolition, the land was left vacant for several years.

In 2023, the council's planning department approved plans for commercial units and a Starbucks drive-thru on the site, despite traffic and air pollution concerns from objectors.

In May of this year, developers announced that the site situated off Claypath Lane would feature four retail units, including a drive-thru Starbucks, a Greggs branch, and Indigo Sun Retail, alongside eight electric vehicle charging stations.
