PIDCOCK’S SET FOR A PODIUM PLACE

TOM PIDCOCK will enjoy not having to take any more “disgusting recovery drinks” as he secured the biggest result of his career.

The Yorkshireman will claim his first podium place in a Grand Tour when he rides into Madrid this afternoon to finish third in the Vuelta a Espana.

On a thrilling final climb that reached gradients of 20 per cent, Pidcock came under fire from Jai Hindley.

But even though he lost a few seconds to the Australian, Pidcock held onto third.

He goes into the final processional flat stage with a 30-second lead over Hindley and is happy the gruelling fight is almost over.
