Young ‘hustlers’ to trigger an entrepreneurial boom

YOUNG entrepreneurs could double the number of businesses in the UK — if they can get financial backing, research shows.

A growing “side-hustle” culture is driving 18 to 34-year-olds towards going it alone, with 67% interested.

Their appetite for enterprise comes as business confidence plummets to its lowest level in over five years, and with firms shedding staff at the fastest level since February.

However, one in 10 people want to start a new business in the next year, according to a report by financial services firm Block.

If all of them were to do it, the number of UK firms would almost double.
