Sutton feels pity for Bren over 'unforgivable' transfer window

- By Michael Gannon

CHRIS SUTTON insists Brendan Rodgers could feel he's well within his rights to quit Celtic after their deadline-day farce.

With the Hoops already short of striker options, Rodgers told the media last week that Adam Idah would not be sold unless they had a replacement in the building.

However, the Republic of Ireland cap was offloaded to Swansea City for £6million despite the Hoops failing to land another centre-forward before the transfer window shut on Monday night as top targets Kasper Dolberg and David Datra Fofana both snubbed them.

That left Parkhead recruitment chiefs scouring the free agent market in a bid to scramble a deal, with Kelechi Iheanacho in their sights after the 28-year-old former Leicester star ripped up his Sevilla contract.

And last night Celtic made contact with Patrick Bamford, 31, who departed Leeds United last weekend after seven years.

Hoops legend Sutton accused the board of leaving Rodgers in an "unforgivable" position, saying the manager could be forgiven if he left again mid-season despite promising fans he would honour the third and final year of his contract in full.
