Unemployed Scots shun jobs over lack of flexibility

ALMOST half of all unemployed Scots are put off applying for a job if it has fixed hours or location, according to research.

A survey by business consultancy Flexibility Works suggests many jobless Scots are shunning potential roles due to the lack of flexible working.

Of 208 adults unemployed and looking for work, 48% said they were put off applying for roles because the opportunity to work flexibly was not mentioned in the job advert.

It also found 28% — the equivalent of over 25,000 people — said the availability of flexible working would “make the difference” in enabling them to secure a job.
