'Timebomb' fear as cancer deaths rise by 4% in decade

MORE than 16,000 people died from cancer in Scotland in 2024, according to a new report —an increase of 4% over the last decade.
However, age-adjusted mortality rates for all cancers have decreased by 12% over the same period.
Sorcha Hume, Cancer Research UK’s public affairs manager in Scotland, said: “It’s good news that cancer death rates are continuing to fall in Scotland. This is thanks to improvements in the prevention, detection, diagnosis and treatment.
