'Time to act' on teen jail suicides

THE SNP Justice Secretary has been told it is time for "action" instead of words to make prisons safer for vulnerable teenagers.

Angela Constance gave a statement at Holyrood on her decisions to accept 25 recommendations in a damning report about the suicides of two young people.

Katie Allan, 21, and William Brown, 16, died within months of each other in 2018 at Polmont, which is run by the Scottish Prison Service. A sheriff ruled earlier this year that their deaths were avoidable.
