They said, 'do as you are told to stay alive'

SUSAN Pollack survived two Nazi concentration camps and knows how happiness and hope can disappear in the blink of an eye.

Born Zsuzsanna Blau in Felsogod, Hungary, in 1930, she lived with her mother Gisela, father Erno, and brother Laci, and her early childhood was full of hope.

But she quickly became aware of rabid antisemitism, and by the time she was a teenager Susan was sent to Auschwitz where more than 50 members of her family - including her parents were executed.
