Swinney rejects view of grieving families on scandal hospital

JOHN Swinney has overruled the view of grieving families as he insisted that the deadly Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH) is safe for patients.

The entire hospital has not been safely validated due to its ventilation systems not being up to scratch with regulations.

These systems, alongside the water supply, have been blamed for the deaths and infections of dozens of patients, including children, at the Glasgow hospital.

It was opened “before it was ready” following “pressure” with some of this coming from leading SNP politicians at the time.

'No family should go through what we have'

The botched opening led to cancer patients being treated in unsafe wards, with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde being investigated for corporate homicide over seven deaths, including 10-year-old Millie Main.

Over the weekend, 91 people who are relatives of 27 patients who have died or suffered infections at the QEUH, sent a letter to the First Minister which asked for more reassurances around the safety of the hospital.
