Sinner awaits scan result after testing his injured elbow

JANNIK SINNER is confident he will face big-serving Ben Shelton in the quarterfinals today after returning to practice following his right elbow injury.

The world No.1 took painkillers after falling during his fourth round tie before his opponent Grigor Dimitrov was forced to retire with a pectoral muscle injury.

The US Open champion underwent an MRI scan yesterday and had booked a 4pm practice time at Aorangi Park to hit with left-handed junior Jacopo Vasami.

But instead he trained on an indoor court away from the public with his coaches Darren Cahill and Simone Vagnozzi.
