Darvel still fresh in Scales’ mind

- BY MICHAEL GANNON

SHOCK ABSORBER

WHILE the Auchinleck Talbot squad celebrated as they watched the Scottish Cup draw, Liam Scales felt a shiver racing up his spine.

Celtic getting paired against the Junior outfit brought back some painful memories for the Irishman after being part of the Aberdeen team famously humbled by fellow West of Scotland Premier League outfit Darvel 1-0 in the same competition in January 2023.

The frightening flashback has given the defender extra motivation - and added caution - to warn his Hoops teammates to be on their guard to avoid a repeat on Sunday evening.

Scales said: “That was the first thing that came to my head when I saw the draw. It's a similar sort of team.

“I've spoken about it to the lads as well, you can't get complacent. But I don't think complacency was really the issue that night.
