Tories blame SNP's 'toxic nationalism'

- By David Walker Scottish Politics Reporter

A SCOTS primary school headteacher has been blasted for branding the Union flag "potentially offensive or sectarian" in a letter to parents. A copy of the letter was shared on social media where the head raised concerns about the UK's national flag being displayed at an event for parents and guardians.

The incident took place at Cross Arthurlie Primary School in East Renfrewshire with the correspondence signed by the headteacher Fiona MacDonald. It has gone viral, with critics blaming the SNP's "toxic nationalism" infecting schools in the country.

In the letter, the head said to families of P7 leavers that the use of a Union flag in images may have been a "mistake".

She wrote: "Thank you for coming along last night. The children looked fantastic and had a great time.
