Rowling hits out at NHS Scotland as English staff win female spaces fight

JK ROWLING has reposted a message to her army of social media followers criticising the Scottish NHS for dragging its heels on single-sex spaces.

It comes after UK Health Secretary Wes Streeting personally intervened in the case of the Darlington Eight — a group of nurses fighting for a female-only changing room at their hospital.

They claimed a biologically male colleague, identifying as a woman called Rose, ogled at their breasts as they were changing and loitered for too long.

One nurse even suffered a panic attack after allegedly being asked when alone: “Are you getting changed yet?”

Landmark

The case was set for court before Mr Streeting ordered Darlington Memorial Hospital to give the female nurses their own single-sex facilities.

It bears many similarities to the landmark tribunal brought by Scottish nurse Sandie Peggie, who was suspended by NHS Fife for objecting to trans medic Dr Beth Upton using the female changing room at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy.

However, despite the UK Supreme Court confirming that biological sex and not gender identity must be the basis for single-sex spaces, NHS Fife has yet to concede the case, which is due to resume in July.
