Road memorial to chicken lorry ‘terror’ rejected

ANIMAL rights campaigners tried to have a roadside memorial put up for hundreds of chickens that died in a lorry fire.

Charity People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wrote to National Highways calling for a plaque close to the scene of the blaze on the A12 near Kelvedon, Essex, earlier this month, inset.

It shared a design and words “in memory of the chickens who suffered and died in a lorry fire on this spot”, with a photo of a hen and a message of “try vegan”, adding that they had died in “terror”.
