Returning Turner has ground to make up, says Scots boss

FORMER Glasgow Warriors hooker George Turner is back in the Scotland squad for their summer tour to the South Pacific after a year's exile in Japan.

The 32-year-old was first choice for his country before he left the Warriors last year. And national coach Gregor Townsend warned Turner will have to fight to get the jersey back for the games against the Maori All Blacks, Fiji and Samoa on July 5, 12 and 18 respectively.

“George knows he's missed the last 12 months, so he’s got ground to make up,” said Townsend. “He'll have to train well. He'll have to fit back into our way of playing.

“But we know what he brings. He brings real accuracy in throwing in, an explosive attacking ability. But he’s also a big leader in defence.”
