The quartet were the toast of yesterday's event

Robbie Hall, 103, Ruth Barnwell, 101, Dorothea Barron, 101, and 99-year-old Marie Scott, were guests of honour at the RAF Club yesterday, where serving military personnel met those from the greatest generation.

Among the speakers at the exclusive event, organised by the Taxi Charity for Military Veterans, was Linda Hiddink, who served with the Royal Netherlands Army as a doctor in Afghanistan.

Els Schiltmans, from the Recovery and Identification Unit of the Royal Netherlands Army, also addressed the gathering in London's Piccadilly.

She locates the bodies of fallen Second World War heroes to give them a dignified and honourable burial.

But it was the wartime quartet that everyone wanted to hear from.
