Back-to-school bugs are costing parents time off work, with the start of the September term the peak time for family sickness, research reveals.

Two-thirds of parents have to stay at home during the first term to look after poorly children, the study for Holland & Barrett found, with more than half of youngsters getting sick in the first three weeks.

And women take more time off to care for kids compared to men.
