OAP protester called victim a 'baby killer' in outburst

- BY CONOR GORDON

A PRO-PALESTINE campaigner has been convicted of hurling abuse at a leading spokesman for Scotland's Jewish community.

It was claimed in court that Michael Napier labelled Samuel Stein a “baby killer” during the outburst in a busy city centre street.

Yesterday, the 78-year-old was found guilty of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner towards his victim.

This was aggravated by prejudice related to religion, or a social or cultural group with a perceived religious affiliation.

Mr Stein, 79, was targeted on Argyle Street in Glasgow on a number of occasions between February and June this year. The pensioner, from the Glasgow Friends of Israel group, claimed he was picked on by Napier and others in the Scottish Palestinian Solidarity Campaign group because of his Jewish religion.

Yesterday, Glasgow Sheriff Court heard evidence from Mr Stein.

He stated that he went to Barclays Bank on Argyle Street and observed Mr Napier’s group protesting there.
