OLYMPIC GREAT HOY LAUNCHES PROSTATE SCREENING PROJECT
Scottish Daily Express
|March 25, 2026
SIR Chris Hoy urged men to get tested for prostate cancer as he launched a major project to screen 25,000 men for the disease.
He was speaking yesterday at the launch of the Scottish Prostate Cancer Initiative in Glasgow.
It is a project to screen 25,000 Scottish men in a bid to improve early detection and diagnosis while saving lives.
Sir Chris announced his diagnosis in October 2024 and said he had been given between two and four years to live.
In his message, the six-time Olympic gold medal-winning cyclist called for those over 40 to get a simple test, saying: "It could save your life." The married father-of-two said he had found a "new purpose" following his diagnosis of incurable prostate cancer.
The Edinburgh-born cyclist said he had a clear message for men.
Painless
He explained: "The most important thing is to explain that it's just a simple blood test. With a PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) test you are in and out of the doctor's in five minutes.
