New contactless limit advice on tap for seniors

From tomorrow, a big change hits the high street as the £100 contactless spending limit on debit and credit cards is scrapped.

Banks will now be able to set their own limits, or even remove them altogether. This means shoppers could pay for a £200 supermarket shop or a £500 electrical appliance with a single tap of their card or mobile phone. For many, it promises convenience. But it also raises the risk of larger losses if a contactless card is lost or stolen.This is a particular concern for pensioners, many of whom remain wary of the shift to digital money. The change comes as more shops refuse to accept cash, and with banks accelerating branch closures, older and vulnerable people are increasingly feeling squeezed out of the high street.
