MCINNES SEES HEROIC IBROX WIN AS A 'REFERENCE POINT'

DEREK MCINNES reckons Hearts' statement win against Rangers has set the standard for his team.

- By Scott Burns

Saturday saw the Jambos record a first victory at Ibrox since 2014 - when both teams were playing in the Championship - and their first in the top flight since 2012.

The 2-0 triumph ensured the weekend ended with them remaining level on points with leaders Celtic, who have a superior goal difference. But McInnes believes this is only the beginning for his men and they will be looking to push on further.

The manager said: "We have only just started. We are only five games in. The league is in its infancy but there is loads of encouragement for everybody - supporters, the players and myself.

"I am pleased with what the players gave. That is the way I want my team to be, to have that confidence.

"Hopefully there is a bit more in us this season.

"It is a good reference point for us now because everybody and anybody was quick to tell us how poor our record was at Ibrox.
