McAllan's pledge on homes is slammed

HOUSING Secretary Mairi McAllan has been told that bringing empty homes back into use is not the answer to Scotland’s housing emergency.

She is planning to fund more empty homes officers to work with the Scottish Empty Homes Partnership (SEHP), which has brought just under 11,000 homes to the market in the past 15 years.

The SEHP said there were 46,217 homes empty for six months in Scotland in 2023/24, although this figure falls to 28,280 for homes that have been vacant for more than a year.
