McAllan blasted over SNP energy bill u-turn
Scottish Daily Express
|November 19, 2025
MAIRI McAllan was condemned by all political parties after “embarrassingly” scrapping a flagship energy bill - just nine months after vowing it would be brought forward this year.
The SNP Government effectively scrapped its Heat in Buildings Bill - delaying it until after the 2026 Holyrood Election. It would have set out new legally binding standards for homeowners to bring down carbon emissions by forcing them to axe gas boilers and buy environmentally-friendly heating systems. The legislation was crafted by former Scottish Greens co-leader Patrick Harvie.
FARCE
But despite Energy Secretary Gillian Martin vowing in April to bring the bill before the end of the year, she has now u-turned. She blamed the UK Government, but this excuse was torn up by rivals.
