And for Mikel Merino, once again a night where if a striker's only job is to score goals, he showed his prowess.

Merino filled in at the tip of the Arsenal spear to help Mikel Arteta's side on their way to a fourth straight Champions League victory.

It was accomplished without conceding a goal for the eighth successive match - equalling a club record set in 1903.

And the evening was capped off 18 minutes from the end with the arrival off the bench of Max Dowman, right, who became the youngest player to appear in the Champions League at 15 years 308 days old.
