Man in court after alleged murder of talented scientist

Dr Fortune Gomo was discovered in Dundee over the weekend.

Emergency services were called to the Lochee area of the city shortly before 4.30pm on Saturday.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics she was pronounced dead at the scene on South Road.

A 20-year-old man was detained a short time later.

Yesterday, Kyler Rattray appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court charged with murder.

He made no plea and was remanded in custody.

Rattray is due to reappear in court within eight days.

Dr Gomo was originally from Matare, Zimbabwe, located in the east of the country close to the Mozambican border.

She graduated with a PhD from Dundee University, and recently started working for Scottish Water.

Yesterday, her brother, Regis Nyatsanza speaking to BBC Scotland from his home in Zimbabwe, said: “Two weeks ago we were laughing about throwing her a 40th birthday bash but she said she’d achieved most of what she wanted.
