Scotland rookie teased at initiation performance
LENNON MILLER has revealed he got pelters from John McGinn and Co after singing an Ed Sheeran song at his Scotland initiation.
But it was less to do with his rendition of Sheeran’s hit The A Team and more to do with the fallout of the uncapped 18-year-old Motherwell midfielder's vow to become the national team’s best player “within a couple of months”.
Miller’s bold prediction didn’t go under the radar when he joined Steve Clarke’s camp ahead of last month’s Nations League play-off double header against Greece.
He explained: “I did my initiation song and after it they were like ‘Aye, it was all right, but maybe in a few weeks you'll be the best’.
“John McGinn was right up there, I knew it was coming.
“There were a few jokes, they all kind of understood what I was trying to say and knew it was a mistake.
“It is a good thing (to believe in yourself) but a few months is probably ridiculous, to be honest with you. Obviously a few words wrong but it is what I want to be.
There are positives to it, I just need to do it in my own time.
“It’s not come across like I have meant to say it.
“I believe in my ability, I want to be the best young player, I want to be the best player in Scotland.
