Insult to Sir David's memory'

THE widow of murdered MP Sir David Amess has accused ministers of a cover-up following a review into the handling of the case by counter-terror programme Prevent.

- By Josh Payne

His killer Ali Harbi Ali was referred to the scheme which aims to stop people from becoming terrorists in 2014. In October 2021 the ISIS fanatic stabbed the veteran Tory, 69, at his constituency surgery in Essex. Ali was sentenced to a whole-life order.

In a leaked letter to the Home Secretary, Lady Julia Amess described the review as an “insult to Sir David’s memory” and called for a public inquiry to get proper answers.

The Amess’ family’s lawyers scrutinised Independent Prevent Commissioner David Anderson KC’s report and said “too much investigation” was “behind closed doors”.
