O'Neill admits that his side must shape up to have any hope of European progress

- CRAIG SWAN

MARTIN O'NEILL admits brittle Celtic were taught a brutal Euro lesson and it's his job to turn teacher.

And the boss has offered comforting words to distraught kid Callum Osmand who left just his third senior game on a stretcher devastated with a serious hamstring injury.

The Parkhead side were shredded by the Danes of Midtjylland in a savage seven-minute first-half spell. O'Neill admits the crumple was as much about mentality as ability and gave a clear indication of the massive work needed to be done to get Celtic back punching properly on the continent.

Asked if the Danish pasting was a reminder of the work the Hoops have to do in Europe, he said: "Of course. Absolutely. I couldn't agree more.

"European football is where this club, because of the great Jock Stein, has been a priority. But tonight there, it can show you, the very obvious thing is we have to improve.

"That's a big lesson for us, to know what it takes to be a really decent European team.

"You've got to hang in.

Until you get regrouped, whatever you do, don't concede a second goal.
