Martin going for Athens win despite a two-goal cushion

- By Scott McDermott

RUSSELL MARTIN insists Rangers won't sit on their Champions League lead and vowed to attack in Athens.

The Ibrox club take on Panathinaikos in the Olympic Stadium tonight with a two-goal advantage from the first leg in Glasgow.

Gers will face intense heat and 40,000 fanatical Greek fans but Martin is adamant they’re NOT looking to protect what they have.

The Rangers manager insists they’ll go for the throats of Rui Vitoria’s side to secure their place in the third qualifying round.

When asked if he would change his approach given their 2-0 lead, Martin said:

“No. At this football club you have to try to win every single game.

“That has to be the mentality of our team.

“I don’t believe in going into a game and trying to avoid something.

“We try to work towards something, rather than work away from it.

“We'll work hard to try to win the game and we'll have to be very good to do that.
