First Minister repeats Indy mandate claim

JOHN SWINNEY attempted to restart the SNP’s failed independence campaign yesterday by insisting that a pro-Scexit majority would lead to a referendum.

- By David Walker Scottish Politics Reporter

The First Minister had been unusually quiet about the constitution since the SNP’s brutal general election defeat last year. Yesterday, at a keynote speech, he claimed he had been trying to “win the trust” of Scots again.

The SNP has only managed to secure a majority once, in 2011, leading to the independence referendum three years later.

After recent elections, the Nats have used Green MSPs to argue that a “pro-independence” majority gives them a mandate for another independence poll.
