Europe roar on to retain Ryder Cup in tense showdown

EUROPE’S golfers retained the Ryder Cup last night in a nailbiting Ryder Cup despite a spirited fightback from the much-vaunted Team USA.

Rory Mcllroy and fellow Europeans had seized the largest lead in Ryder Cup history going into the final day’s singles matches at 11.5 points to 4.5.

They needed 14 points to retain the trophy and 14.5 to win outright and squeezed home even though the US were dominant in most singles games.
