Decision must be made on Lord Advocate's dual role

ANYONE looking at the ongoing debacle surrounding what, if any, advantage the Lord Advocate's email to John Swinney about Peter Murrell gave would no doubt be perplexed at its details.

The fact the communication was only disclosed a week ago, more than a month after it was first sent, was enough to raise eyebrows.

But we have now discovered that there had been liaison on the subject almost a year ago.

At the time, the Crown Office was refusing to disclose any details about Murrell's embezzlement case to either the Press or the public.
