Welder came for job and won fortune
A COUPLE from the Philippines who moved to Scotland due to a shortage of specialist welders have won a life-changing £1million on a National Lottery Instant Win Game.
The skills gap hit the headlines last year when Babcock in Rosyth, Fife, hired 300 Filipino welders because they couldn’t find enough in Scotland.
This was blamed on cuts to colleges and apprenticeships under the SNP Government.
Arsenio Navarro Jr, 36, and his wife, Reyna, 38, relocated to Greenock so he could work with BAE Systems on ships for the Royal Navy on the Clyde.
They are now planning to buy a home thanks to their windfall.
