Chancellor is urged not to put Scotch on the rocks

THE Scotch Whisky Association has urged the Government to impose a multiyear freeze on spirits duty, warning that continued inaction threatens jobs, investment and Treasury revenues.

The trade body said ahead of the next month’s Budget that recent duty increases had cost the Treasury £700million while placing a £12 tax burden on every bottle of Scotch sold in the UK.
