CALUM HILL'S bid to secure a debut in next month’s Open will go down to the wire on home soil after the Scot came up just short at the Italian Open.

Calum’s Portrush spot still an Open question

The 30-year-old made a spirited push for one of just two Portrush spots up for grabs in Italy but a closing two-under 68 for a 10-under aggregate left him in a share of third place in Monte Argentario yesterday.

Adrien Saddier claimed the title - and with it an Open berth - on 14 under, while his French compatriot, Martin Couvra, also nabbed a Portrush tee-time by finishing as runner-up on 12 under.
