Former car dealership boss was run over during exercise regime

- By Connor Gordon

A BUS driver ran over and killed a pedestrian who was crossing a main road on his daily walk.

Amarjit Singh struck Scott Willies, 65, in Glasgow, despite having a 766-yard (700 metres) view of what was in front of him.

The First Bus employee failed to spot Mr Willies who was out as part of his daily 30,000-step exercise routine.

First offender Singh, 56, pleaded guilty yesterday at Glasgow Sheriff Court to causing death by careless driving.

The tragedy happened on Great Western Road in the city's West End in January 2024.

Sheriff John McCormick said: "Mr Willies was a much loved husband, brother and friend. His family have been heartbroken by his loss.

"I read the terms of the victim impact statement and I can understand their torment at the manner of his demise."

The court heard that the victim was a former director of the Arnold Clark car sales group.
