n last week’s Budget, Chancellor Rachel Reeves moved to spare low-income retirees from paying tax on their state pension, but in doing so she may have caused more problems than she has solved.

Reeves extended the freeze on the personal allowance to 2031, a move that will drag even more pensioners into paying income tax as the triple lock drives up the value of the state pension.
