'BLINKING' TRUMP PROMISES DEAL WITH CHINA

DONALD Trump appeared to back down in his long-running feud with China over trade as he told reporters he would make a "very good deal" with Beijing.

Speaking as he hosted Italian PM Giorgia Meloni at the White House, the US president said: "There'll be a trade deal, 100%.

"They want to make one very, very much. It'll be a fair deal." Asked if Washington should be worried about allies seeking to build closer ties with China, Mr Trump said: "No."

Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, of Yale University's school of management, said the US leader was "blinking" under pressure from Beijing.
