TOM GRENNAN Everywhere I Went, Led Me To Where I Didn't Want To Go (Insanity)
-
THE fourth album from Bedford singer-songwriter Grennan sounds like he’s desperately keen to be all things to all people. While he wanted it to have a positive outlook and sound like George Michael, Prince and Freddie Mercury, it begins like Robbie Williams, gets more up to date in the vein of Harry Styles, goes Backstreet Boys with Shadowboxing, then finally gets near to one of his targets with Dirty Dishes, which resembles Queen’s Another One Bites The Dust at the start.
CASE OATS Last Missouri Exit (Merge)
THIS is an intriguing debut from Chicago-based Case Oats, who are fronted by singer-songwriter Casey Gomez Walker and have Jeff Tweedy’s son Spencer on drums. It’s a pleasant mix of country, folk and indie-pop, with Walker's off-kilter vocal reminiscent of a female Neil Young. Walker reels you in with her sharp-eyed lyrics, especially on Wishing Stone and Seventeen.
