BBC's respected 'voice of India'

Scottish Daily Express

SIR Mark Tully’s name was synonymous with India.

The journalist was the bureau chief of the BBC in New Delhi for more than 20 years, from 1972 to 1993.In 2017 he made a documentary for the BBC World Service to coincide with the 70th anniversary of partition and as he toured locations across the subcontinent, it was clear that his standing as the BBC’s “voice of India” still endured two decades on from his resignation. His “beat” during those years also took in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

William Mark Tully was born in India and so his reporting often captured the sense of belonging he felt for the subcontinent.
